Problem Statement

Work experience is a crucial factor in student employability, however deeper analysis shows a mismatch between the platforms used to post jobs and the platforms people are using to find jobs. 20% of recruiting leaders say they have mobile optimised career sites, but 45 % of active job candidates apply for jobs on a mobile device. (LinkedIn, 2014)

This trend is set to continue with 66% of UK adults owning a smartphone (up 39% from 2012) and the vast majority (90%) of 16-24 year olds owning a smartphone. (Ofcom, 2015) Although recruitment has moved into the digital age with websites such as LinkedIn, Reed and Monster it is evident we are still not reaching people effectively on the platform they are most active, the mobile phone.

The aim of this project is to create a mobile app, which will connect users to jobs in a selected area via matching algorithm and provide employers with a web client to manage and review job listings. The matching algorithm will present users with the most appropriate jobs based on factors such as the search location, interests, GCSE’s, A Levels, degree subject and degree classification.
